The research unit "Mother and child health in the tropics" is aimed to undertake research programs dedicated to the understanding of the origins of morbidity and mortality during pregnancy, the post delivery period, and the first 5 years of life.
Our main objectives are:
- to study diseases in pregnant women from developing countries, and their consequences on maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality,
- to study diseases during the first years of life, and their consequences in public health,
- to study the receptivity and the reaction of the organism when first infections occur,
- to study genetic factors involved in infection control and in the acquisition of protective immunity during the first years of life,
- to use the results of these works to elaborate integrated control strategies.
This research unit includes both epidemiologists and biologists and has laboratories located both in Paris, Cotonou and La Paz.
